Best of luck to new commissioners

To the editor,

Congratulations to Marsha Porter Norton and Matt Salka, La Plata County’s new commissioners. They were sworn into office Tuesday morning.

As candidates matched against them in the 2020 election, we gave our best effort to win the seats they now hold. Although the final count was disappointing to us, our families and supporters, and our campaigns, the election process was a wonderful and growing experience. The record turnout of voters was especially inspiring.

Despite the narrow margin of victory for commissioners Porter Norton and Salka, we are 100 percent confident in the election process, election officials (both paid and volunteer) and the final vote count.

All four candidates in the race ran on very similar issues, and we wish Porter Norton and Salka the best possible chance of success. We pledge our support to anything that will make La Plata County a better place to live, raise a family and earn a living.

Our most important mission, whether locally, statewide or nationally, is to get along with each other through respect, understanding and common sense. May we all work to that end, for the benefit the community, our families and the future.

We are all in this together.
