Ensure your vote gets counted
To the editor,
President Trump has threatened to have his supporters show up at polling places to “monitor” who is voting. He has been trying to block or undermine mail-in voting ballots. For years, the Republicans have tried to cripple the Post Office. Charles Koch, the government-hating oil billionaire, has spent over $350 million in the last 10 years to get rid of Benjamin Franklin’s post office. Trump has 4 illegally slowed down mail delivery so we will lose faith in our mail delivery.
To protect your vote, here is current voting information: La Plata County ballots will be mailed out to voters on Fri., Oct. 9. The following week, you will have your ballot. To take the pressure off our post office, fill your ballot out right away and hand deliver it to one of the local vote ballot drop boxes:
• The La Plata County Clerk’s Office, 679 Turner Drive., Bodo Park
• La Plata County Courthouse, 1101 E. 2nd Ave.
• Concert Hall Parking Lot, Fort Lewis College
• Farmers Fresh Market, 535 Goddard Ave., Ignacio
• Bayfield Town Hall, 1199 Bayfield Parkway
Questions? Want to make sure you are on the county voting rolls? Call 970-382-6280. If you have any trouble voting, call the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights’ National Election Hotline, 866-687-8683. Someone will answer your call from 6 a.m. – 11 p.m.
Vote early, remember to sign your ballot envelope; and hand deliver your vote! Ballots are due back by 7 p.m., Tues., Nov. 3.
