Kicking & Gliding

In a community that loves outdoor recreation and the gear that goes with it, demo days are our favorite days. (Well, maybe second-favorite after powder days.) Last Sunday, the Vallecito Nordic Ski Club and Durango Running Co. helped winter cardio fanatics get their fix at Vallecito Nordic’s annual Demo Day. The event, held at the Nordic system along the shores of Lake Vallecito, featured everything from classic cross country skis to skate skis, boots and snowshoes from Backcountry Experience, Pine Needle Mountaineering and 2nd Ave. Sports. There were even treats from Zuke’s for our four-legged outdoor companions. Whether trying out the latest and greatest or strapping on gear for the first time, attendees were able to put their Nordic abilities to the test either independently or in instructor-led clinics. And in the likely event that demoing led to buying, make sure to check conditions first at www.vallecitonordic.org before hitting the trails, as rain and ice can make for interesting and challenging conditions. But don't let that get you down – the views are always amazing.
