Redwine booked into La Plata County jail
Bail set at $750,000
Mark Redwine arrives in La Plata County late Monday afternoon, Aug. 14.
Mark Redwine was booked into the La Plata County Jail at 4:56 p.m. Monday following extradition from Whatcom County, in northwestern Washington. La Plata County Sheriff’s deputies took custody of Redwine on Monday morning in Washington and returned to Durango with him via chartered plane. Redwine was arrested in Bellingham, Wash., on July 22 in connection with the November 2012 murder of his son, 13-year-old Dylan Redwine.
A grand jury indicted Redwine on July 20, and a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of second degree murder and child abuse resulting in the death of his son. Dylan Redwine disappeared during a court-ordered visit with his father over the Thanksgiving holiday in 2012. His remains were found in a remote area northwest of Mark Redwine’s home in May 2013.
The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office coordinated with the U.S. Marshals, Washington State Police and Bellingham Police to locate and arrest Redwine, who works as a long-haul trucker, following the indictment. He has been held in Whatcom County Jail pending extradition since his July arrest.
Judge Jeffrey Wilson advises Redwine of the charges he is facing at the La Plata County Courthouse,on Tues., Aug. 15. He reduced Redwine’s bail from $1 million cash only to $750,000 cash surety – meaning he can post bail through a bail bondsman. Redwine would need to come up with about $112,500 to post bail through a bail bondsman. The Sixth Judicial District Attorney’s Office will prosecute Redwine’s case.
Updates and information on the case will be released on the Sixth Judicial District Attorney’s Office web page; the La Plata County Sheriff’s web page, Twitter and Facebook pages; as well as La Plata County’s web page and social media. All social media posts will use #redwinecase.
