A Spam sandwich

Editor’s note: The April 3 edition of the Telegraph contained a letter by “Margaret E. Cozine Landrum” of Durango. The letter came from New Mode, an online civic engagement platform that sends politically minded communications on behalf of various organizations and individuals. Even though she did not necessarily disagree with the message of the letter, Margaret Cozine said she did not endorse it and does not know how New Mode obtained her information. In addition, New Mode used a former married name for Cozine, which she has since dropped. New Mode has not replied to requests asking how it obtained Cozine’s information.

In the meantime, the Telegraph will double down on due diligence for the small but growing number of letters that come from platforms like New Mode. And as always, we urge readers to be careful of who they are sharing their information with.
