Flower Power

We all know April showers bring May flowers, but inside April’s Garden, flowers bloom year round. Particularly last Saturday, when – despite springtime rains – a crowd gathered for flower crown-making 101. The class was sponsored by Project Open Arms, whose goal is to raise awareness in La Plata County about rising suicide rates and the need for mental health support for youth and adults. The day included snacks, professional photos and an entire garden's worth of flowers, ribbon and greenery to create take-home crowns. And with proceeds from the day going to the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Colorado, Axis Health and other local suicide-prevention programs, crown-makers could not only feel good but look good, too.
