Getting a grip

Perhaps it is masochism that compels us to do what we do. Perhaps it is the pain that we crave, the struggle that we desire. Perhaps it is the intense concentration that sends people into a sort of meditation, where no chores, deadlines, emails, relationship woes or alarm clocks matter anymore. Perhaps all these things are reasons why climbers love to climb, because of the razor sharp focus it takes to stick a move or send that problem route. Or maybe it’s just the beautiful view from the top.
