Hot to Trot

'Tis the season for weight gain, and even after the mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie are gone, there is still the holiday party season to look forward too. For the most part, the early darkness of winter months doesn't exactly help stoke the exercise buzz. But last Thursday, more than 600 runners fought the battle of the holiday bulge at the Du- rango Running Club's annual Turkey Trot fundraiser. The 5-mile and 1-mile runs were held at Fort Lewis College under prime running conditions, breaking all previous attendance records. The event also gave turkeys a run for their money, with folks dressed up in their party-fowl finest, all gobble-gobbling their way straight to the dinner table.

A couple of turkeys add some extra colorful plumage. Even more impressive: running in those custom turkey feet.

With warm tempera- tures on Thanksgiving, there was no need for a hat, but let's face it, turkey dressing is the best.

This group of trotters deserves that extra helping of pumpkin pie.
