Rock stars: Checking out the Rock Lounge's new digs

After closing nearly a year ago, Durango's indoor climbing gym, The Rock Lounge, has reopened in a new, more northerly location. Thanks to the tireless work of construction crews, Rock Lounge owner Marcus Garcia and donations and help from volunteers, the new gym officially opened last weekend at its space at 111 E. 30th St. Local climbers flocked to check out the new digs, which include bouldering routes, a tension wall, kids area and even a short tower. And with snow finally hitting Southwest Colorado, it couldn't be better timing for climbers to hunker down inside to start warming up for the spring climbing season. Phase II of the Rock Lounge is expected to begin this summer and will include sport-climbing walls. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help fund the expansion.
