Hidden beneath subalpine meadows in Colorado’s Flattop Mountains lies a subterranean wonderland, the true extent of which has yet to be realized. Of the area’s numerous caverns, Groaning Cave stands alone as the crown jewel, containing over 15 miles of explored passages to date. Each season, Groaning’s footprint grows, as explorers map and document uncharted terrain. Perhaps more impressive than its unknown vastness is the absurd beauty found within the cave’s maze.
