A slow roll
Durango has a speed problem. And in the interest of public safety and reducing accidents, the City of Durango has announced a new Speed-Management Plan. But first it wants to hear what you have to say. Through May, the City is conducting an online survey on speed and safety on city streets.
“Public participation is essential to creating a plan that addresses community concerns in a way that works best for the community,” Devin King, City of Durango multimodal manager said. The survey is open to city residents and anyone in the Four Corners who comes to Durango.
Strategies being considered include: traffic calming (speed bumps, road narrowings, medians and roundabouts); education; automatic enforcement (i.e. “eye in the sky” speed cams); and other “best practices.” Using survey results, the City will implement three pilot projects this summer/fall to determine what works and what doesn’t.
The project, which will entail permanent as well as “quick-build” improvements, is funded by $246,240 from the Federal Highway Administration as well as $61,560 from the City. The survey is open through Fri., May 30, at: Engage.DurangoCo.Gov/speed-management-plan.

Turns out, blondes do have more fun, or at least they get more awards. Last week, Ska Brewing won the gold medal for its True Blonde Ale in the English-Style Pale Ale category at the 2026 World Beer Cup. This is the third win for the Blonde at the World Beer Cup, held in Philadelphia on April 22 and pegged as one of the world’s most prestigious beer competitions.
