Aid for Andy

Durango is rallying around one of its own once again. This Saturday, friends and family of Andy Albosta will be hosting a fund-raiser for the 46-year-old, who fell 50 feet while ice climbing in Cascade Canyon on Jan. 20. The event, which includes appetizers and a silent auction, takes place from 3 – 6 p.m. at the Balcony Backstage.

Albosta, a husband and father of two young girls, suffered extensive injuries including a broken pelvis, collapsed lung and internal bleeding. He was flown to Albuquerque immediately after the accident and is now recouping at San Juan Rehab Center in Farmington.

“He is doing better than expected,” Andy’s brother, Aaron, said Tuesday, crediting the quick response of search and rescue paramedics. “The support has been a huge help.”

Aaron said Andy’s recovery is expected to take four months, during which time he is expected to be out of work from his business, Apex Electric.

Donations for Andy’s recover can also be made through his Go Fund Me page or Alpine Bank.
