... and that
Wake up! It’s National Coffee Day today, which means it’s perfectly acceptable to have that second or third cup. Heck, keep the dark, roasty elixir flowing all day long.
And all of us in Durango know we are blessed by an embarrassment of riches when it comes to the black gold, WalletHub recently ranked all the other best cities for coffee junkies. To determine the rankings, WalletHub took into account several metrics, including number of coffee shops per capita to average price of a bag of beans.
Here are the other top 10, in order, with the usual suspects as well as a few surprises (Minneapolis beat out San Fran?!): Portland, Ore.; Seattle; Minneapolis; Pittsburgh; Orlando; San Francisco; New Orleans; Madison, Wis., Cincinnati; and Scottsdale.
A few tidbits to mull over while you sip your cheap and plentiful cup: In Honolulu, the average price for a cappuccino is $4.69, the highest in the country. Also, be thankful you don’t live in Laredo, Texas, which has a measly 3.3 coffee shops per 100,000 residents compared to Portland’s 101.7. But when it comes to coffee’s best friend, the venerable doughnut, Orlando wins top dunking honors, with 18.5 per 100,000 residents, which is 18 times higher than those poor (and probably a lot skinnier) folks in Anchorage, who only have one per 100,000. Talk about living in total darkness.

It’s a mash-up made in Westernwear heaven. Sort of. Seems Chaco, the purveyor of the iconic strappy dirtbag river rat footwear, has joined forces with Wrangler, as in tight jeans, big belt buckles, bull riding and snap shirt fame.

Turns out, blondes do have more fun, or at least they get more awards. Last week, Ska Brewing won the gold medal for its True Blonde Ale in the English-Style Pale Ale category at the 2026 World Beer Cup. This is the third win for the Blonde at the World Beer Cup, held in Philadelphia on April 22 and pegged as one of the world’s most prestigious beer competitions.
