Better late than never
Mother Nature has been fashionably late to Southwest Colorado this season, but that’s no reason to cancel the party. After 13 inches of snow this week, and more in the forecast, the powers that be at Purgatory Resort fired up the bull wheel at its little sister ski area, Hesperus, on Wednesday.
“Everyone at Hesperus is excited to kick off the ski season on Wednesday,” Ben Beresford, mountain manager at Hesperus Ski Area, said in a press release. “We’ve been hard at work, making enhancements to our facilities in order to improve the guest experience, and we’re excited to showcase all of our efforts.”
Improvements at the little hill in the scrub oak include a new ski school yurt, expanded rental shop, upgraded rental equipment, and revamped day lodge; and ski bike rentals.
Hesperus will be open for night skiing 4 – 9 p.m., Wednesday – Friday; and on weekends from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. There will be extended hours for Presidents Day, Mon., Feb. 19, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Adult lift tickets are $39 full-day, $29 for night skiing. Kids 7 years and younger, fourth-through sixth-graders, and those 70 and older ski free every day. Purgatory season pass holders also ski for free.

Turns out, blondes do have more fun, or at least they get more awards. Last week, Ska Brewing won the gold medal for its True Blonde Ale in the English-Style Pale Ale category at the 2026 World Beer Cup. This is the third win for the Blonde at the World Beer Cup, held in Philadelphia on April 22 and pegged as one of the world’s most prestigious beer competitions.
