D-Day cometh
As surreal as it may seem, Inauguration Day – Fri., Jan. 20, in case you didn’t know – is fast approaching. But a group of local women are not planning to take the event sitting down.
On Sat., Jan. 21, there will be a “Standing on the Side of Love” march along Main Avenue. The march will leave the D&SNG train depot at 12 noon and proceed to Buckley Park, where there will be live music and speakers.
After the march, participants can head over to the Smiley Building for “RESPOND with wisdom, empowerment and unity,” an all-day event at the Smiley Building. The day includes workshops pertaining to social, political and economic justice in our region. Topics include: nonviolent communication; successful political movements; how to support immigrants in our community; how to transform despair into positive action; white privilege; affecting political change; and more. And lest the day be all cerebral, the workshops will be interspersed with yoga, dance and tai chi.
The event is completely free but donations will be accepted for various local organizations, including Planned Parenthood, Compan?eros, 4CGLAD and San Juan Citizens Alliance.

Turns out, blondes do have more fun, or at least they get more awards. Last week, Ska Brewing won the gold medal for its True Blonde Ale in the English-Style Pale Ale category at the 2026 World Beer Cup. This is the third win for the Blonde at the World Beer Cup, held in Philadelphia on April 22 and pegged as one of the world’s most prestigious beer competitions.
