Getting cross
The weather’s cold, trails are slick and digits frozen, which can mean only one thing: cross season has arrived. This Saturday marks the beginning of the Four Corners Cyclocross series – which will run for six weekends (taking a week off for Thanksgiving on Nov. 25):
• Nov. 4, Joe Rowell Park, Dolores
• Nov. 11, Pagosa Springs
• Nov. 18, Ray Denison Field, FLC, Durango
• Dec. 2, Parque da Vida, Cortez
• Dec. 9, Ray Denison Field, FLC, Durango
• Dec. 16, NM State Championships, Aztec
• Dec. 17, Whiskey Run/4CCX Finals, Aztec
• Dec. 18, 6 p.m., Awards, Carver Brewing
Don’t have a cross bike? Any 29er will work (skinny tires are better.) There will also be kids races at select venues, and riders under 18 race for free. All others pay $25/race (licenses are required for the N.M. State Championships Dec. 16.) For more info, check out cycling.fortlewis.edu/4ccx or email hagen_d@fortlewis.edu.

It’s a mash-up made in Westernwear heaven. Sort of. Seems Chaco, the purveyor of the iconic strappy dirtbag river rat footwear, has joined forces with Wrangler, as in tight jeans, big belt buckles, bull riding and snap shirt fame.

Turns out, blondes do have more fun, or at least they get more awards. Last week, Ska Brewing won the gold medal for its True Blonde Ale in the English-Style Pale Ale category at the 2026 World Beer Cup. This is the third win for the Blonde at the World Beer Cup, held in Philadelphia on April 22 and pegged as one of the world’s most prestigious beer competitions.
