Going electric

Mountain bikers, start your engines. The eMTB trial period at Twin Buttes is officially under way. The one-year trial – which applies to Class I pedal-assist electric mountain bikes only – runs from June 29, 2020 - June 29, 2021, with winter seasonal trail closures in effect. eMTB riders are reminded that they are not permitted on any other City natural-surface trail and that they are expected to follow current trail etiquette, including yielding to all other trail users, regardless of direction. Riders should also ride with the trail’s general directional flow and not scare the bejesus out of slower riders.

For a full rundown of riding etiquette and a map of Twin Buttes, go to DurangoGov.org/electricbikes. And since this is a “trial” period, the City welcomes feedback. Please send comments regarding eMTBs at Twin Buttes to the Durango Parks & Recreation at rec@DurangoGov.org.
