Nat's Kiva
The memory of Natanya Joy Mallin-Jameson will now live on, not just in the hearts of friends and family, but in a kiva constructed near the Lion’s Den, on the Fort Lewis College Rim.
Natanya, who grew up in Durango and graduated from Fort Lewis College, died in 2014 of a rare form of cancer. She was 27.
“We are building a dry stack stone structure on the trail east of the Lion’s Den,” her father, David, said in an email. “It’s a relationship building chamber.”
The kiva was built using funds raised for Natanya’s alternative medical care, which insurance did not cover. “She died before much of the funds could be utilized,” said her father. “So, this is her and our gift back to Durango’s generous and compassionate community.”
A dedication of “Nat’s Kiva” will take place with an “Open Kiva” from 1-5 p.m., Sun., July 17 at the Lion’s Den Park, across from the Hillcrest Golf Clubhouse. Mariana’s Authentic Asian Cuisine will be on hand, selling food.

It’s a mash-up made in Westernwear heaven. Sort of. Seems Chaco, the purveyor of the iconic strappy dirtbag river rat footwear, has joined forces with Wrangler, as in tight jeans, big belt buckles, bull riding and snap shirt fame.

Turns out, blondes do have more fun, or at least they get more awards. Last week, Ska Brewing won the gold medal for its True Blonde Ale in the English-Style Pale Ale category at the 2026 World Beer Cup. This is the third win for the Blonde at the World Beer Cup, held in Philadelphia on April 22 and pegged as one of the world’s most prestigious beer competitions.
