People get ready
Pedestrians will no longer be able to do-si-do across Main Avenue and College Drive. This Wed., May 16, the “Barnes dance” diagonal crossing (actually named for its inventor Henry Barnes and not a form of Western dance) was officially decommissioned.
Built in 2010 to increase pedestrian safety, a recent study found the unconventional intersection, which gave peds more time to cross, was causing cars to stack up, from E. Second Avenue to the College Drive-160 intersection.
The decommissioning was part of the larger “College Drive Improvements Project,” which also involves a new traffic light at E. Second Avenue and College. Construction of the new light is complete but the light will remain covered until Tues., May 22. It will flash yellow for three days, giving folks time to mentally prepare, before going live on Fri., May 25.
Other additions to the area include land re-striping, new bike boxes and bike lanes, and turn arrows. Crosswalks will also be installed so down-town patrons no longer need to take their lives in their hands when crossing College Drive.

Turns out, blondes do have more fun, or at least they get more awards. Last week, Ska Brewing won the gold medal for its True Blonde Ale in the English-Style Pale Ale category at the 2026 World Beer Cup. This is the third win for the Blonde at the World Beer Cup, held in Philadelphia on April 22 and pegged as one of the world’s most prestigious beer competitions.
