Philanthropy by the pint

In honor of its 25th year in business, Steamworks Brewing Co. said it’s going to donate $1,000 to 25 different local nonprofits.

Steamworks opened its doors Sept. 14, 1996, and remains one of Durango’s most popular brewpubs in a town that loves its beer. As a way to mark its milestone, the Steamworks brass asked its employees to submit the names of some nonprofits they valued and wanted to donate to.

“We decided to celebrate the community that has supported us for all these years,” Brian McEachron, chief marketing officer and co-founder, said. “We enjoyed hearing why these entities were so important to our valued team members.”

Durango’s breweries have a long history of not only providing refreshing beverages that help us forget the stresses of daily life, but also giving back to local nonprofits.

Just this past weekend, La Plata Open Space Conservancy was the beneficiary of Ska Brewing Co.’s own anniversary celebration. Calls to Ska and LPSCO were not returned Wednesday morning.

Regardless, Durango breweries’ philanthropic run make it easy to give back to your community by simply imbibing in local brew. Who needs to volunteer when you can drink beer!

Just kidding, volunteer.
