Rock out

Rock out

With the days getting colder and shorter, getting out on the crag is getting harder. Fortunately, the Reel Rock tour is bringing the big wall action to a big screen near you tonight, Thurs. Oct. 13, at the Community Concert Hall.

Sponsored by Backcountry Experience, the 11th annual climbing film fest “cranks it up to 11” with – you guessed it – 11 climbing films sure to leave you at least hanging on the edge of your seat. Some of this year’s highlights include:

- “Young Guns,” the story of the new faces of the climbing world, 15-year-old Ashima Shiraishi and 16-year-old Kai Lightner. A trip to Norway puts their skills to the test, and Ashima attempts to make history on a V15 boulder in Japan.

- “Boys in the Bugs,” Pack your gear and tag along as elite climbers and worldclass goofballs Will Stanhope and Matt Segal go for broke on an epic four-year battle to climb a forbidding 5.14 finger crack high in the Canadian Bugaboos.

- “Brette,” follow rising talent Brette Harrington on a global journey from her hometown granite in Squamish to the big wall proving ground of El Capitan and a landmark free solo in Patagonia.

Doors for the Reel Rock Film Tour open at 6 p.m. with films at 7. For info or tickets, go to www.durangoconcerts.com.
