Durango High School sophomore Jordan Taylor is making waves on the Colorado Wake Association circuit. After just three years of wake surfing and only one season of competing, she was crowned the Colorado Wake Surfing Champion in her divi- sion on Sept. 2 in Colorado Springs.
Taylor first tried wake surfing while visiting fam- ily in Tennessee. She then honed her skills on Navajo Lake, where her family keeps a boat. Over the summer, she trained three to four days a week.
Jordan says she surfs for the joy of it, rather than competition.“It’s just fun. I don’t really see it as competitive ... I just get out there and surf.”
When not on the water, Jordan skinny skis for the new DHS Nordic team and plays on the DHS golf team.
