Survivor Day
Dozens of mourners turned out for a vigil Tuesday night in remembrance of Durangoan Tricia Leigh Shadell.
A Devo coach, avid enduro racer and massage therapist, Shadell was found dead from apparent suicide at her home Monday. There have been 18 suicide deaths so far this year in La Plata County.
Making sense of and moving on from such tragedies is difficult, but those affected by suicide don’t have to go it alone. This Sat., Nov. 18 is International Survivor Day. Sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Survivor Day is a day for people affected by suicide loss to gather, find comfort and gain understanding as they share stories of healing and hope.
In Durango, Survivor Day events will be held at Fort Lewis College Noble Hall Room 130 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
This year, all gatherings will include a screening of “The Journey: A Story of Healing and Hope,” a compelling AFSP-produced documentary about the suicide loss experience. A new follow-up featurette, “The Journey Revisited,” in which six of the original Journey participants gather three years later to reflect on their grief and healing journey, will also be shown.
The event is free and snacks will be served. Attendees are asked to please register ahead of time at afsp.org/survivor_day/durango-colorado/ so organizers know how many people to expect.
For those who can’t attend the local event, there will be an online Survivor Day event from 2:30 – 4 p.m. The program will also include the film screenings as well as a live Q&A panel discussion with suicide-loss survivors.
Tune in on AFSP National’s Facebook page (you will be able to comment or ask questions through your own Facebook account) or on the AFSP homepage. The entire program will also be available for viewing afterward on the AFSP page.

It’s a mash-up made in Westernwear heaven. Sort of. Seems Chaco, the purveyor of the iconic strappy dirtbag river rat footwear, has joined forces with Wrangler, as in tight jeans, big belt buckles, bull riding and snap shirt fame.

Turns out, blondes do have more fun, or at least they get more awards. Last week, Ska Brewing won the gold medal for its True Blonde Ale in the English-Style Pale Ale category at the 2026 World Beer Cup. This is the third win for the Blonde at the World Beer Cup, held in Philadelphia on April 22 and pegged as one of the world’s most prestigious beer competitions.
