Total lockdown
There’s no more get-out-of-jail free cards for first-time trash offenders in Durango. For the next two months, residents
who fail to secure their trash and find it strewn up and down the alley will get more than the stink eye from the neighbors and an unpleasant early morning task. The City of Durango will slap them with a $100 fine, which will double with a second offense.
Durango City Council approved the emergency ordinance Tuesday night in response to what has been an active bear season in town. As of last week, officials had responded to 465 bear calls; more than double the number of calls during the last bad bear season, in 2012 – and this season is bearly over (sorry.)
The ordinance will be in place for the next 60 days – until right around the time bears pass out from their large Thanksgiving dinner.

Turns out, blondes do have more fun, or at least they get more awards. Last week, Ska Brewing won the gold medal for its True Blonde Ale in the English-Style Pale Ale category at the 2026 World Beer Cup. This is the third win for the Blonde at the World Beer Cup, held in Philadelphia on April 22 and pegged as one of the world’s most prestigious beer competitions.
