If last week’s dusting on the peaks has you chomping at the bit for ski season, chew on this. Silverton Mountain plans to drop the rope on its 15th season Dec. 29 – a mere four months away.
However, they’ve done away with the early unguided season this year, going straight to guided skiing through March 26 (Thursday – Sunday and President’s Day, Mon., Feb. 20). For those looking to go it alone, unguided opens for six days in the spring, March 31, April 1-2 and 7-9.
Cost for a day of guided runs $149-$159 depending on the day. For those with a little more time and money, there’s a Solid Gold Pass ($499; no Spandex leotard required) good for 10 days of skiing December-January; free skiing during the unguided season; a special passholders-only day March 30; $79 standby heli skiing (end of January to early March); and, most importantly, $2 beers.
The $179 Unguided Season Pass includes six days of unguided; the pass holder-only day; half-price heli drops and discounts on guided skiing.

Turns out, blondes do have more fun, or at least they get more awards. Last week, Ska Brewing won the gold medal for its True Blonde Ale in the English-Style Pale Ale category at the 2026 World Beer Cup. This is the third win for the Blonde at the World Beer Cup, held in Philadelphia on April 22 and pegged as one of the world’s most prestigious beer competitions.
